On March 16th, 2011 ACRL-LA hosted a pre-conference workshop in conjunction with the 2011 LLA Conference. Many thanks to all who participated!
That's not a misprint on the schedule-- ACRL-LA's Pre-Conference Workshop is free if you're going to LLA 2011 already. All you have to do is say you're coming and come!
Mar. 16, 2011
12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
South Regional Library (directions here)
Cost: Free with LLA 2011 registration!
The meeting room is at the far right end of the corridor to your left as you enter the building.
Your registration packet will be available at the pre-conference (some of you are also attending the morning pre-conference and will have received your packet at that time). If there is a problem with the registration packet, please check after the pre-conference with Conference Registration. They will be open from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. in the Cajundome Convention Center.
March 16th UPDATE: Two presenters are unable to attend due to tragic circumstances. The pre-conference will continue as planned.
Open access resources not only offer library users valuable scholarly information for free, they also provide librarians with opportunities that require their professional scholarly expertise. This workshop will focus on acquiring open access resources, interpreting copyright issues, and understanding the positive impact that open access resources will have on the role of academic librarians within the college or university. Examples of open access resources will include electronic theses and dissertations, digitized sheet music and sound recordings, and online journals. Copyright issues will include copyright and the learning experience, responsible teaching and scholarship, and permissions.
There will also be an ACRL-LA executive board meeting at Starbucks near the library (directions here) at 10:30am on the 16th.
