Membership, Nominations, & Elections Committee chair Mike Matthews has recently issued a new call for nominations:
Attention ACRL-LA Chapter Members:
We are having a special election for the office of “President-Elect”, which has been recently vacated. The President-Elect will serve from the date of his/her election to June 30th of 2012, and will thereafter serve as the absolute monarch of the Louisiana chapter beginning July 1st until June 30th of 2014.
As the chair of the Nominations and Elections committee, I would like for any chapter members who are interested in serving as President-Elect (and by implication President) to send their self-nominations to matthewsm@nsula.edu ASAP. In the email, please include a copy of your vita and a brief biographical statement of 100 words or less.
For those of you who may well wonder what the office duties are, I have selected the following passage from our By-Laws:
A. The President shall conduct meetings, submit the budget request and other reports to the national ACRL, appoint Chairs of Standing or ad hoc Committees, and Chapter Liaisons contingent, on the approval of the Executive Board of the Chapter. The President shall also share the responsibility with the Vice President/President–Elect for coordinating the development of workshops and programs. The President is the Chapter’s official representative to the ACRL and serves as ex–officio member of all Chapter standing committees except the Membership and Elections Committee.
B. The Vice–President/President–Elect shall share the responsibility with the current President for coordinating the development of workshops and programs. Other responsibilities shall include conducting meetings in the President's absence, and appointing the Chair of the Membership and Elections Committee.
I will need your self-nominations by Tuesday, January 17th, which is two weeks from today. Once we have a ballot of candidates, we will open the members-only discussion list for voting. We will keep the “polls” open until Friday, January 27th.
Thank you in advance for your burning desire to serve your fellow librarians and library staff support members.
Sincerely,
Michael Matthews
